The Campsite’s Immediate Surroundings   

The ice age was a very long time ago; and when planning a holiday or weekend away we certainly don’t give it a second thought! And yet the Hondsrug, the Drentsche Aa valley, the megaliths, the magnificent fens, the sand dunes and Zuidlaardermeer are only there thanks to the ice age.

“De Vledders” campsite came into being in the beautiful landscape of the Drentsche Aa and the Hondsrug.

First as a farm, then as a farm camping and now a fully-fledged campsite with, for the greater part, tourist camping pitches on a farm estate of approximately 20 ha.

An exceptionally beautiful countryside surrounds the campsite. A succession of  stunning, varied wildlife areas, an array of streams and small rivers and villages that have seemingly been randomly scattered around the landscape. Cycling tracks and footpaths (hundreds of kilometres), the Pieterpad and the Saksenroute (LF14) are just outside the front door, the Drenthepad, the knapsack routes, etc., etc., far too many to list them all. Daydream through the lush Drenthe countryside and rest for a while in one of the nostalgic village squares.

For more attractions and adventure there are amusement parks, museums, events, and fairs. For the smaller children there is the Sprookjeshof, Kabouterland, Emmen Zoo, Verkeerspark Assen; an abundance of fun and amusement.

And then we have the city... Groningen!! Not only for a rainy day. “The City”, as it is popularly called, has everything a city should have. A visit to Groningen is an absolute must.
